About codr.tools

A small set of developer utilities that do one job each, load fast and run entirely in your browser.

What this is

codr.tools is a collection of 22 developer utilities: formatters, converters, generators and references. Each one has its own page, does a single job, and is written to be useful in the thirty seconds you need it, not to be a product you sign up for.

How it works

  • Everything runs in your browser. The tools are JavaScript loaded with the page. Whatever you type or paste stays on your machine and is never sent to a server. You can check that in your browser's network panel, or disconnect and keep working.
  • No sign-up, no accounts. There is nothing to register for and nothing to log in to.
  • Fast pages. Each page is static HTML with one small widget. Only the tool you opened loads its code.
  • Ad-supported. The site is free and paid for by advertising. Ads sit in fixed spots so they never push the tool around while you are using it.

How the tools are built

The logic is our own code wherever writing it ourselves is the sensible option, which is most of the time: UUIDs, percent-encoding, Base64, hashing and date maths are all things the browser already does well. A third-party library is used only when the hard part is a large formal specification or where a mistake would be a security problem, and then it is pinned to a version, checked for a permissive licence and loaded only on its own page.

Every tool's logic sits in a plain module with unit tests next to it, and the behaviour is checked against the relevant standard rather than against what other tools happen to do: RFC 9562 for UUIDs, RFC 4648 for Base64, RFC 3986 and the WHATWG URL standard for encoding, YAML 1.2 for YAML, the IANA registry for HTTP status codes. Where implementations legitimately differ, the page says so.

Who runs it

codr.tools is run by coredump OÜ, a private limited company (osaühing) registered in Estonia under Estonian Business Register code 17488193.

Registered address: Sepapaja tn 6, 15551 Tallinn, Harju maakond, Estonia.

Getting in touch

Bug reports, corrections and requests for new tools are all welcome. Use the contact form. If a tool gives you a wrong answer, say which input produced it and that will get fixed first.
